You notice how many of these are sequels to surprise hits, right?
The sequel becomes the definitive summer movie, even though the original was not.
We had Beverly Hills Cop two, but not one.
We had Terminator two, but not one.
Lethe Weapon three, but not one or two.
And now American Pie two.
Mainly this snuck in because Shrek was a spring movie and Pearl Harbor was a flop and the Fast and the Furious was not well known, didn't do much at the box office.
So American Pie 2 comes in as the summer movie for the year 2001.
2002, Attack of the Clones.
2003, Finding Nemo.
O four, Spider-Man two, O five, Batman begins.
And Jack's patience begins to end.
I'm just kidding.
But seeing Spider-Man 2 and Batman begins starts to make me think this might be the point where movies stop being made for Jack.
Even in the 90s, a movie like Ghost or Apollo 13 or Saving Private Ryan, those were real adults, real grown-ups.
Drama that did not involve superhero costumes, which those movies can be great, but we're a long ways away from Homer.
