I am so excited to be here with you today.
Yeah, so I was on Books with Hooks, or my query letter was.
It was, I think, December of 2024.
It was the episode where you had David Joy on as the guest.
But it was for an entirely different project than this one, another historical mystery that I wrote set in Regency-era Britain.
And it ended up that even though that is not the book that I'm here to talk about today, it did indirectly lead to me getting my current publishing deal with Berkeley.
After you talked about my query on Books with Hooks, I implemented some of the feedback.
It was very helpful.
And I ended up querying that book for months.
Quite some time, I sent over 60 query letters, I got requests, but no offers from agents.
So then in the spring, I guess actually that was the spring of 2024, so the podcast must have been 2023.
Berkeley announced that they were going to have an open submission period where people who did not have agents could submit to them for a limited time only.
At that time, I was drafting the Cloak and Dagger Club, but it was not even close to done.
So I decided, I'll just submit this Regency mystery.
No agent has wanted it yet, but I have it.
It's ready to go.
I might as well do that.
I submitted that and then fast forward to October.
At that point, I was planning to start querying the Cloak and Dyer Club the next week or two weeks later.
