So the idea is that you can go through these catalogs of seismic data and train the machine learning on the catalog, so then it would be optimized for that.

So they also say modern seismic networks produce enormous data sets that, when properly analyzed, can offer valuable insights into the precursors of seismic events.

This is where advancements in machine learning and high-performance computing can play a transformative role.

enabling researchers to identify meaningful patterns that could signal an impending earthquake.

So remember, though, it's important that before attempting in a new region, they say, the system would have to be trained in the area's historical seismicity.

So you're not going to bring the system to a new area and just start cranking out some information of when – if something is coming.

It's got to become well-versed, if you will, in the area itself.
