I don't like that.
If you chunk the word, break it up, and it's easier to pronounce in bite-sized chunks rather than as a gestalt.
Oh, is that how you do it, Babs?
Sometimes, if it's difficult for me.
All right, guys.
A researcher has devised a quantum neural network that appears to interpret some optical illusions the way people see them.
That really was so fascinating.
This is by Ivan S. Naksimov, and he published in the journal APL Machine Learning.
The title of his study is Quantum Tunneling Deep Neural Network for Optical Illusion Recognition.
So a machine learning system falling prey to optical illusions.
It really caught my attention this week.
But my buddy, the devil, is in the details, as they say.
So what's going on here?
As usual, we need to set the table a bit.
So let's start with neural networks, which we've covered here and there on the show before.
Let's do a quick overview.
Neural networks are a branch of machine learning that attempts to process data in a way that is very loosely inspired by the human brain.
It consists of a layer of interconnected artificial neuron-like elements that allow it to store and classify data.
Imagine you have a signal arriving to an artificial neuron, and it's met by this traffic cop, and that traffic cop is called an activation function.
This function looks at all the signals that are coming in from other neurons, and it applies these weights or importance to those signals and then decides...
