And it is always the people, not the politics, that I think in these disasters, the hope emerges and you see a way forward.
And so in this book, you meet all kinds of people.

And only to be on the concrete, the coolest place he could find when he was trying to fight these fires, push back on every flick of every flame that he possibly could.
Or Tim Larson from the Palisades firefighter who told a lady, I'm going to do everything but die trying to save your home.

Herb and Lloyda Wilson, 30-year UPS employees that met there and married there and lost their home on McNally, which happens to be the street that I interviewed Gavin Newsom on.
Albino Fuentes, a worker from Cafe Vida in the Palisades, literally a server, who to me encapsulates how the people who come and work in these communities are as important as the people who lay their heads there at night.
It's understanding all of their stories and how they've gone through this together in their own individual way.
There were tens of thousands of people who evacuated during these catastrophic wildfires.
They're interconnected in so many ways.
And I think that they also bring to the surface some of the fissures that exist in our society.
LA is the most unaffordable city and the most unaffordable state in the union.
It's part of what is so hard about coming back for all of these people.
