It's why people are coming out into the streets every weekend, it seems, in greater numbers.
It's why I said from the very beginning here, I thought that the protests would work.
It was just going to take some time for people to realize and see what was going on because so many people got tired after the first term of paying close attention to this.
And now that it's in our faces again,
Family separation, why did it stop?
Not because Donald Trump had some moral awakening.
He said, I didn't like the sight and the feeling of the families being separated.
He didn't want to hear the images.
He didn't want to see the people in the streets by the hundreds of thousands, millions.
The Pope spoke out at the time.
Now we have an American pope that speaks English that's from the streets of Chicago who's pushing back on this, inspiring people to come out into the streets.
And I think that more and more people are realizing exactly what this is.
It's what they promised when you and I both were on the floor of the conventions last summer when they were saying mass deportations now holding up those signs, thousands of them.
But I think so many people didn't fully realize because of what's going on in their everyday lives that this is what it was going to be.
It's what they long promised now that people see it.
They're getting out there and they're pushing back.
I've seen it done.
I saw it in LA in June and July.
I saw it in Chicago, uh, in the middle of the summer.
