Well, I actually think, Don, what we were talking about before and the book itself are connected.
Two common threads for me.
One is people.
And this is a story about people as much as it is about climate, as much as it is about politics.
How do you watch your childhood neighborhood burn to the ground in real time and report live on national television and process it?
I couldn't solve that question for myself a year ago when the
costliest wildfire event in American history happened to break out in my neighborhood that I grew up in.
And what I learned is that you can't.
And I had to do this book because I had to dive
deeper and while it might read i think to a lot of people like a sci-fi thriller it is a lived reality not just evangelino's but it's called the great los angeles fires and america's new age of disaster because it's coming for all of us at some point it is as true of a true story as there can be and it is the confluence of all of these things it is the confluence of the climate emergency that we saw it is changes in the way we live with the materials that were exploding around us being a part of these disastrous fires that were three times the size
of Manhattan.
It's our infrastructure falling apart and it's misinformation and disinformation.
And that comes from people like the administration that's in office right now.
And there are consequences to both local and federal policies that played a part in this.
And one of the federal policies is immigration policy.
Today, in the wake of it, we're talking about ICE.
The rebuilding is moving slower than it should because the people that are central to the rebuilding effort in Los Angeles are
caught up undocumented day laborers largely in the crosshairs of the administration's policies to go after not just the worst of the worst, but everybody.
So it's there.
It's a story that is very broad and it's a story that's both very personal and very, very political.
