Here's the scary thing about AI that I've been gathering thread on.
So I was just at a gathering a couple of weeks ago in New York.
I was seated next to a psychiatrist who works as an incoming, as an intake person at a big ER in New York City, in a big hospital.
And she was describing to me the incredibly consistent approach
number of people coming into the ER with a very specific AI related problem, psychosis essentially.
And that is an endless chatting, chatting with AI to the point where they have become convinced of some sort of hallucinatory idea that they can't get free of.
And it winds up blowing into a full blown psychosis.
And she was describing a person coming in who had convinced himself that he was the king of a nation.
And at first she thought, you know, he seemed like a lost traveler and she couldn't quite pin down.
And then eventually she figured out, oh, no, this guy thinks he's the king of England.
Oh, geez, this is a problem.
So...
The crazy part is that's not the first time I've heard of this.
In fact, I've heard of this from many intake professionals at various hospitals around the nation.
And it's become such a consistent thing that...
we're actually seeing these intake professionals having to make up a code for this, right?
So every hospital has a code for each kind of problem, both for insurance reasons and for record keeping reasons, diagnostic reasons.
You know, if you come in with a migraine or a gunshot wound, there's a code for that.
Well, there's no code yet that's standardized across a hospital system or standardized certainly across the medical system for that kind of thing, for AI psychosis.
But they're having to improvise them.
