So once Lula da Silva won in October 2022,
Bolsonaro went on a big rampage of decrying the election as fraud, describing imaginary plots to hack the system and to that, you know, somehow it's all very similar stuff to what we heard in the United States, that the machines were corrupted and there was an influence campaign and all of this stuff, none of which
has been shown to be true.
Because here's the other thing about Brazil is, as cartoonish as its misinformation system can be, and it's really crazy, the kinds of horrific sexual stuff and all kinds of creepy stuff that's brought against journalists and investigators and the rest of it, it's in some ways even worse than it is in the United States.
But at the same time, there's a very powerful form of journalism here in which many, many investigative journalists are working all the time.

investigative news agency, a sort of fact-checking news agency that's based here in Rio called LUPA, which stands for the magnifying glass.
And, you know, they do all kinds of amazing work fighting that disinformation and misinformation.
And then the, you know, the federal judgeships are very, very powerful here.
They have incredible discretion to lead investigations, do all sorts of stuff.
And Alexander de Moraes had done all of that.
It all came to a head such that
the police filed charges against Bolsonaro in a 900 page document that say that basically he talked in that year between October 22 and then January of 23,
talked about laying siege, creating a state of siege, and the idea that basically he would sort of actively work to overthrow Lula da Silva's duly elected government.
And in the end, on January 8th, 2023, a year and two days after the January 6th in the United States,
On January 8th, a huge number of supporters of Bolsonaro went ahead and stormed the Capitol.
Very, very similar to how it happened here in, how it happened in the United States.
And that attack has now, is now the thing being called a coup.
So much so that, so not only would, does Bolsonaro currently face a prohibition on really running for political office again until 2030.
He's not allowed to run for office, to stand for office until then.
