What intrigued you about wanting to do this?
Michael.
Michael just, he transcends, you know, any artist I've ever experienced in my life.
I mean, he shaped my career as well because I watched Michael let himself get put in a box.
He was the first artist, black artist on MTV.
I watched Michael break out of the box and create music for everyone.
I took the lens of, like, really looking at Joe, examining him from the point of view of being a father, a blue-collar father at a certain time in America when all he had was to give himself to his family to make sure they succeeded.
He saw what his children were, and he really made sure that... But he pushed them.
Yeah.
You know what?
Listen, I don't have anything... I don't know what to say about that because I wasn't there, but all I do know is that his work ethic and his rigor did produce the most incredible musicians on this planet.
We grew up with him literally since he was three and I was five.
And so being around him was just normal.
You would say that people think this is wrong.
People think this is wrong.
They're wrong.
You know, this is love, this is real, but these people think it's wrong and I could get in trouble and they'll want to kill me.
You promised you love me, that you'll protect me, you'll not say anything because they're wrong, they're wrong.
