av, of that cap hit, but it's sort of being redistributed into like more useful players, I think, uh, than Hunter Tyson. So I think most people would agree, you know, Hunter Tyson or Spencer Jones, who, who would be more useful for the nuggets here? I think most people would say Spencer Jones. So, uh,
And then the league takes half of that money and then the other half gets distributed among all the non tax teams. So certainly a deal like this puts a number of millions of dollars back in the cronkies pockets at the end of the day. So basically they could.
Pay like two million dollars to Utah for this kind of favor and still be six million good at the end of it, right? Yeah, it's basically a smart investment, I guess you could say. So you are writing a check right now for someone to take on his contract. But yeah, you're going to make it up on the back end when those distributions come around.
Achua is basically just a three month rental. He's not going to be a king here in three months most likely. But he's played pretty well for him. And you're getting a guy back in home who's a little bit more of an upside swing. You're going to have him at least another two plus years.
And you'll see what he's got. And then for Denver, you're getting a guy who can play in the front court. And I think you're getting a little bit of insurance where if Daron Holmes... Sorry, not Daron Holmes, if Valanchunas...
Maybe tweaks an ankle or tweaks a calf in the playoffs and he has to miss some time. Well now you have a Chua and you're not totally sunk in those backup big minutes. So it's a little bit of an insurance policy I think for Denver where hey if we're in the playoffs and we have to play one of these two guys on your screen here who are we more comfortable playing? It's probably a Chua. So that's kind of the motivation there.
Denver gave up three second round picks just to move up and select homes. So it's kind of, you're sort of flushing that all down the toilet. But I think from a team point of view, if you say, for example, we have a 20% chance to win the title this year.
Well, if this deal moves you up to 24%, is it worth sort of flushing all that other stuff down the drain? That's kind of the question you have to ask. So that's the reason I threw it out, is I think it does help their title chances for this year.
A second round pick way down the line and an upside swing at a guy like Strother. So that's sort of the question they have to ask themselves. I think it's in the right neighborhood here for Jalen Smith. Like I don't think they're going to get a first round pick for him. I would be shocked if they did. So I think it's like right in the right neighborhood.
Is it a little light? Yeah, maybe. Maybe you need to throw a first round swap in there with it as well. But I definitely think it's along the lines of what I'd expect a Jalen Smith deal to look like.
He's like a little bit of a less mobile Jeremy Grant, I guess you could say. So Jeremy Grant worked pretty good with Jokic when he was here. But Smith rebounds a lot better than Grant does. But he can't defend the same...
number of positions as Grant, so there's some give and take there, but I guess that would be the most similar comparison I would use for the Jokic era. I think he could play next to him, so I would have no problem giving that a try, and I think it would even be a useful lineup.
that I won't share too much detail on but it's basically an application kind of that sort of helps you see things like a GM might be able to see things. So it's been a big project I've undertaken and hoping to have it out by the start of next regular season. So follow my Twitter and there will be some updates there hopefully this summer and looking forward to sharing it with people when it's out.
