So basically my question for our resident literary genius here is are there books that you have avoided because they're set?
Where they're set you thought were boring?
Or that turned out to be interesting or surprising or compelling in ways that you never thought.

Made me think of people do talk about, oh, the city of Rome is a character in Roman holiday or the city of New York is a character in
Gangs of New York.
I s and that obviously those are movies, but the idea of setting
carrying with that the whole idea of, oh yeah, these people have to be here in order for this story to be told.
It has to be an integral part of what the reader's experience of it is.
