It's really fucked up.
Anyway, we I was lucky enough to publish one of these poems in Cherry Tree.
And then um I've seen others around.
This is uh from Massachusetts Review just a few years ago.
Ku Klux Klan Robe and Hood, circa nineteen twenty five, the Henry Ford Museum.
Held behind the dustless glass, I turned into it, it was hard to breathe, my black face drowned in white sateen through the eye holes I stared out, back toward what was me, a pleading glance, then accusatory because of what wasn't said when the white man, his hands hidden in his pockets, without knowing what to say, said, I've seen many of these in the world.
In my life, and what would you have had me do?
I could only stand there in my hood and robe, smiling, not breathing, shut up inside the glass, he slips out, frees himself from my old trappings, past the hooked metal collar, past the bear trap, pried open and ready, moves on.
Wow.
Just so good.
It's just so good.
You guard that dick.

Yeah, Tommy has this way of like letting the poem unfold and it each unfolding moment like lets us in on feeling just a little more clearly or crisply.
Love that.
