I was friends with a number of astronauts.
It's a little bit debatable.
But he had, I said to him, what was it like to go to the moon?
Dr. Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14, sixth man to walk the moon.
And, you know, I was telling you guys earlier, when I want to know... Came off the bench, man.
Damn, right?
That's crazy.
When I want to know, you know, a story, I'll close my eyes and I'll let the words recreate the imagery in my head.
So it's almost like I'm living it, you know?
And...
I closed my eyes and he described like going to the moon, and they have to go around the Earth a bunch of times, and they do what's called a transluter injection, and they have to get all the trajectory just right, and then blast the rockets, and then they coast, and they go for three days through the vacuum of space.
And then coming back again, he goes, quite honestly, James, I was so caught up with all the calculations and everything else, I might as well have been in a simulator, really, until we kind of sat on the moon.
But on the way back, I had time to reflect.
And he said he was looking at the Earth as it was getting bigger, slowly bigger and bigger and bigger.
But he said he had this incredible epiphany about this deep sense of interconnectedness with the molecules in the craft, stars.
And then, you know, there were no, like, borders.
On Earth, it was just this beautiful oasis, this blue marble suspended in the vacuum of dark space.
And he said that it was just like, gosh, you know, all the wars and all the fighting and religion and just all that.
You know what I mean?
And he just had this incredible affinity because I wish more politicians and world leaders could have that perspective because it really and I feel like.
