Sure.
It requires effort.
Yeah.
And the fridge becomes a blocker to that household.
You know, where you might have like, I've got to empty the bins or I've got to wash up.
That's all very visible to us.
So it forms part of our daily chores.
Yeah.
Food waste doesn't, we open the fridge, we go, we're cooking with that, we close the fridge.
We're not actively monitoring, you know, what's going to go off, what can I cook that's going to stop that.
So obviously some people do, I'm generalizing, but I think in the main for us to waste, you know, a thousand pounds worth of food per household,
we are not necessarily doing that extra work and this happens across recycling all the time that to be a good recycler you have to really treat it as housework and you have to spend time on it you have to think about it and i found this study it was a super interesting study that said that to recycle a ton of waste in your house you have to do 185 hours of work
Oh my gosh.
Isn't that unbelievable?
Because that is a lot of labour.
Yeah, just because we do it every week and we don't really think how much time am I actually putting into what is a relatively lightweight activity.
You know, if you consider that recycling plants are doing a ton every, whatever it is, few minutes, you know, maybe an hour.
If a recycling plant is doing a ton in such frequency, at home it's taking us 185 hours to feed that ton to them.
And then I close the fridge again.
What's the energy wastage of that?
