Why would you want to introduce any extra complication in the relationship between your head coach and your number three overall pick you're picking at the start of a rebuild?
Even if you have the utmost belief in the integrity of both guys, which I do, I'm totally willing to buy that.
Coaches who coach their sons or daughters, what's the way they show integrity?
I'm not going to give him the free power play time.
I'm really going to make him earn it so there's no questions about my integrity.
That's not what I want the coach doing with the number three guy.
I want him to have an open mind about giving that player the right opportunities and the best opportunities.
So I just don't see the reason to introduce that level of complication into it, into what's a very, very important relationship for you.
And it doesn't mean it couldn't turn into a success.
What I keep coming back to is just and look, this could be as simple as, as you said, if your evaluation is so high on the player, then it gets to a point where, yeah, you can't pass on them.
I understand that from the outside looking in, it just doesn't seem close to that.
And so it's like you're choosing between similar prospects, one who has this massive complicating factor and one who doesn't.
Let's go for the one that doesn't have the massive complicating factor.
