And it's based on the idea that it's up to the people of Northern Ireland to decide their future.
And they get to decide whether they're united.
with Ireland or stay united with the British uh uh you know the United Kingdom.
And I I don't think it's helpful to
intervene.
And President Trump himself said he knew he was stepping into troubled waters when he began his comments.
So um my short answer is I don't think this is going to solve anybody's problems.
Ireland in fact was one of the most complex parts of this uh separation of of Britain from the European Union because Ireland uh w itself wants to stay in the European Union and they couldn't quite figure out how to make it all work
does work since Ireland and Northern Ireland are one territory.
And so that became very, very, very controversial.
And so I I think it's so complicated and so unhelpful to try to uh have an outsider try to dictate terms.
I remember when Barack Obama uh purported to intervene in in in uh you know uh s uh referenda in Europe uh uh uh in Britain about the uh um uh EU, people criticized him for have
having an opinion on these matters.
Normally politicians try to stay out of these things and leave it to the people themselves, especially in democracies.
And they're gonna figure it out.
Uh it's not been easy, but I think they'll maintain their current course and and keep uh the Good Friday Agreement and keep Northern Ireland affiliated with uh
United Kingdom and that will only change when a majority of people in Northern Ireland change their views.
