Um they had a technical uh fence, an electronic fence, and they thought that they could solve the problem through a technical solution.
And so they arrogantly and stupidly and tragically believed their own uh policies were working when they weren't working, when they didn't realize that.
That Hamas had never given up, that Hamas wasn't satisfied with Gaza, that the electronic fence wasn't going to stop a determined group of people who could figure out a way through it.
And then le uh uh they left un virtually undefended large areas uh of southern Israel where the the slaughters took place.
But I don't believe it was a failure of, you know, I don't think they had a warning that on this day, you know.
ten thousand people are coming across in these five places.
I think what they had was indications that Hamas was considering uh such a w an attack.
They had indications that training had taken place for it.
And they probably had people who were telling them that this really gonna take place really, really soon.
And instead of investigating, examining, beefing up their defenses, taking troops from the West Bank and moving them down to the South as a precaution, um, they arrogantly decided no, they had it under control.
That's my assessment of what happened.
Um and then they were tragically wrong and should pay a heavy political price for it, and somehow uh the leadership has not done so.
but by any judgment of whether Israel is s more or less secure during his prime ministership, it's pretty easy to argue that they were less secure because of October seventh.
And that d attempt to divert attention from that has been going on all along.
That was hi the responsibility of the Israeli government to defend its territory.
It's its primary responsibility.
And the fact that that's never been investigated and uh n no one has been held to account for the failures is one of the things that obviously Prime Minister Olmert and others are furious about.
Good one.
My recommendation is uh a bit different.
It's a documentary docudrama about Charles de Gaulle, uh called Resistance.
