So all of a sudden this line becomes sort of blurry between who am I and uh who am I really and and what who what are these um what are people saying about me?

And so we start taking on that internal dialogue.

Um, one example I can think of is when I mean, again, these these

experiences start early.

When I was six years old, first grade, I can remember having to come up in front of this.

I talked a lot.

Um and I was very chatty.

Uh very chatty.

Uh and I I went to a Catholic school.

Uh I remember being pulled up in the front of the classroom and sister Laura, bless your heart now, um, would have me hold my lips shut and she'd make me stand in front of the classroom facing all my peers, holding my lips shut.

For anywhere between one and five minutes.

It was public shaming.

Yeah.

And um I you know, I was also probably pretty vain at that age.

So I was w I was equally as worried, I was shamed, and I was equally as worried that the longer I did that, my lips were gonna look like hers, and she had these big lips and I didn't like the way she looked either.

So uh anyway, I started faking that I was holding my lips and if I could talk to her now, I'd say, Sister Laura, I get paid for talking.

Yeah.

And um look at me now.

Look at me now.

That's right.
