I could talk about history for ages.
The thing I want to ask about this is that
I think this is something that's going on in my own brain and in the sort of self, and not diagnosis, but self-evaluation of like, do I have it?
Do I not have it?
One of the things that kind of concerns me, and I've heard, we had Maria Roberto, the psychologist on here before, and she said, and it's not her line, it's someone else's, but the problem with misdiagnosis is that people will attach themselves to an identity and can die for that identity.
confusing or hard when I think about that and I lay that over a child and say in the case of I've got a prep child who is there are many things that like I see them just the general struggles of school of starting school how energy zapping it all is
And I don't think that he's ADHD at all, but he's certainly like any kid who's just starting something new and beginning a whole new era of his life.
There are challenges and there are things that he's loving and all that kind of stuff.
And I find it really hard because when we talk about this kind of thing, because I worry that if I, not that I ever would for him, but I'm imagining a situation where it's more someone's got a kid that they're more like, well, maybe they do.
There's two problems.
There's like if I go down the path of saying you've got ADHD and they don't, then they might start to see that as their identity and restrictive.
But then if I choose to ignore it and just say, no, no, no, you're fine, you don't need a diagnosis, then they can start telling themselves a story that's incredibly unkind, that they're lazy, they can't pay attention.
So how does a parent navigate that struggle of like I feel like I could be doomed either way?
It's really interesting, and this is another tick for me, but as a child we used to have these books called Mental Maths.
Did you guys have that?
Do you remember them?
Mental math books in primary school?
50 math questions.
50 math questions every day.
And they were like very simplistic and very repetitive.
