And Deuteronomy 17, 14 says, when you enter the land, the Lord your God has given you.
and take possession of it and settle in it.
And you say, let us set a king over us, like all the nations around us.
Be sure to appoint over you the king the Lord your God chooses.
He must be from among your own brothers, got that.
Do not place a foreigner over you, got that.
The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself.
Think military, tanks, power, whoever's got the most horses and the fastest.
So that's the first thing he said.
Then he says, verse 17, and he must not take many wives.
Well, 700, I would call that many.
Or his heart will be led astray, which is exactly what happened.
There's plenty of verses about how that happened.
