Danton doesn't talk to me and I don't talk to her much.

I talk to her a little.

Or, okay, a lot sometimes.

When the road gets lonely and I don't feel like talking into my radio to whoever you are that's listening.

But still, I feel Danton there for me.

I feel the slight pull of the wheel helping me navigate to where I'm going.

I feel the way she speeds up a second before I put my foot on the gas, and slows a breath before I hit the brake.

She doesn't override me, but she backs me up in what I was gonna do.

I'm alone out here and I'm not alone out here, and both are true at once.

My first goal is to find the woman who led me on to this journey.

I left her gasping in the red Texas dirt.

Now I need her to answer a lot of questions for me.

But she could be anywhere, in not one, but two Americas.

I let Danton's nudging guide me, but that only got me so far.

Because I'm not sure whatever knowledge my RV has extends to a perfect location for every person on Earth.

So I did a lot of asking around.

I did my best to describe her, not just physically, but also her vibe, her likely behavior, the car I last saw her driving.

Mostly, I got blank stares, unsurprisingly.

But at a gas station in Kentucky that smelled like bleach and cigarettes, a woman waiting outside the bathroom said she had seen someone like that in Oklahoma, which made sense if she had been traveling from Texas.

Then the cook at a waffle house in Norman, Oklahoma gestured for me to follow on his break.
