I do wonder how a town this size supports three churches.

I guess the residents really couldn't come together on how they thought about Jesus.

I sit in Success Town Park and eat my lunch because I like the name.

And then I get a move on before anyone in Success starts caring that I'm here.

There's only one person in the world whose attention I want.

And she is far away right now.

I develop a fever.

No other symptoms, but I'm laid flat in bed, shivering.

And the fucked up thing is I'm thinking, at last.

At last will come the visions.

I understand now that the weird wilds of the road have decided to leave me and my home life well enough alone.

I burn up, burrowing into a blanket as Alice brings me cold water and hot soup, and I'm waiting.

I'm waiting for eerie landscapes of ruined Americana, of hillsides full of cryptids not yet thought of by the fantasists, of a field of stars and the slow, awful realization that each of these stars are looking back at me.

They see me, and they are filled with hate.

I wait for any of this.
