And if there's some sort of grind in your zone, if the other team is working off the cycle or you're chasing the play in your zone for any extended period of time, and then you do get possession, generally speaking, your outlet options are limited.

And that's why you see a lot of boards and glass, chips to open space, and you hope that people can explode onto pucks.

in open ice and win races to putts.

But when you play a zone defense, and if you're on time, and the first defenseman or former, for that matter, kills a play in the defensive zone, what it does now is it opens up more flow, more open space, not from a standstill necessarily, or you're off the puck, you're not fully engaged with an opponent.

It's just a different feel, a different look.

And defensemen especially really benefit from that.

So when you look at a Sweden play, or even if you look at even Czechia play, for that matter,

They, their defensemen skated a lot more pots, led the rush a lot more often, outletted more pots and then joined his extra layers.

And I think a lot of that, a lot of that has to do with how you, how you break things down defensively.

So if I didn't play into the, into the, there was only one defenseman really who was a whirling derby cheated and that was correct.

And he, yeah, he did some great things offensively, but I can also tell you that

For everything that he did well offensively, you know, I was throwing my pen across the media box, you know, for some of his defensive lackluster play.

But guys like Keaton Verhoff, Carson Carls, guys who are younger, who are real skaters, they don't necessarily benefit from that sort of a style because if you watch Verhoff play at NODAC, University of North Dakota,

they play a different system down there.

I think Keaton Veroff's the best passer in the draft.

He outlets spots tape to tape very hard, very efficiently, or he can skate in open ice on his own and take advantage of space and take advantage of being an extra layer after those hard outlets that I'm describing.
