oh yeah well david chase made this show about his own mother really and so david chase a little bit of very tiny bit of backstory here is just david chase grew up in new jersey he wasn't like in the mob or anything but he knew like friends of friends he said like he knew people in the mob um like or knew of people in the mob and uh and his mother was like this like he wrote the show basically about his mother and then happened to like attach a mob story to it so it's kind of you can
see the baseline this is a show about a family and their dysfunctional relationships and then the mob stuff is just kind of like married with that and what's really fun about the show as it goes on is the way that those two aspects like kind of mirror each other like even the arc of season one is very much Tony and his relationship with his mother and she's clearly this awful narcissist like
Just kind of black hole of a personality and how that has fucked up his life and turned him into a depressed black hole also.
But then that's mirrored with the mob plot because it's heightened from your average person's relationship with their mother because unlike most mothers, Tony's mother sanctioned a hit.
Yeah.

So episode one, the pilot, like I mentioned earlier, this was filmed way in advance.
