It's not a huge city like Shanghai or like Guangzhou or Shenzhen.
Those are probably the biggest cities in China, the coastal cities, Beijing, of course.
But Xi'an is more inland.
Xi'an is in literally the middle of the current China geography.
But it used to be the center of trade for imperial and ancient China, being the starting point of the Silk Road.
So it has a lot of history there.
Thirteen dynasties had their capital there.
It was more lush, I believe, as well in the older days.
Then there was a bit of a change in climate, and it got more arid.
It's drier now.
It's more dusty.
So it's
kind of faded in a way, but nowadays experiencing such a rejuvenation of people wanting to visit there.
Like when I first came to the US, I was like, oh my gosh, what is a supermarket, right?
We didn't have supermarkets back then.
We had like department stores.
We had like, you buy your groceries on the streets, on stands, like vegetable stands, or you go to the butcher for your meat.
But now it's changed so much.
In China, you could go to any supermarkets in Xi'an and then you don't have to pay with your wallet or your phone even, you just scan your face.
So just kind of a contrast as to how far we've came from that dusty little city to a city that's kind of catching up with modern China.
