Okay, as we reflect on this passage, consider for a moment Pilate's questioning of Jesus.
Remember, he's the governor over Judea, representing the interests of the mighty Roman Empire over this territory.
He is a man with a great amount of earthly authority himself.
It seems like the realm of his rule and the rule of the empire he serves is so significant in this.
And notice how his interrogation of Jesus circles around this question of Jesus' authority and Jesus' realm of sovereignty.
Is Jesus a king?
If he is,
is his kingdom?
Now Jesus insists that his kingdom is not of this world, that it is far beyond the kind of territory Pilate has in mind.
