No, I think the way that Major League Baseball looks at this, guys, is that one year does not wash away what it feels like is a multiple decade long march towards the position that we're in right now.
Is that reasonable?
Is that fair?
So much of this, I think, depends on what one's perspective of competitive balance is.
If you're someone who just looks at championships and World Series wins, yeah, it's kind of undeniable that only large market teams over the last decade have won.
I can't argue with that.
I think the argument that I would make is that winning a championship is not necessarily indicative of where a league's competitive balance is.
To me it's about opportunity, to me it's about
the ability to go out there and compete in the more relevant, I think, just to the argument in this situation, regular season, where you've got 162 games and where...
teams can separate themselves over the long haul rather than go on a month-long heater.
But the problem with that argument is it runs into the what's the whole point of these games?
It's to win a championship.
As great as last year was for the Toronto Blue Jays, the fact that they don't have a banner and a ring makes that a little bit more hollow.
Here's the thing.
I get
everyone's argument here about competitive balance.
I think they're all generally pretty reasonable, and they're all fair, and they're all understandable.
