The Panhandle in particular is one of the flattest places on Earth.
Over an area the size of Pennsylvania, the topography changes, I think, less than 800 meters.
And it's just this...
The joke goes, on a clear day, you can see the back of your own head.
That's how flat it is.
There's no trees.
Up until recently, and now it's been replaced with wheat, but most of this part of the world until the 20th century was covered with these long prairie grasses.
The sun shines almost every single day.
It's windy almost every single day.
It's a very stark, harsh landscape.
It averages, you know, 15, 18, 20 inches a year.
But it's not the averages that sort of define the weather there.
It's very often extremes.
Extremes in temperature in the summer can be insanely hot.
In the winter, it can be bitterly cold.
Like I said, the wind blows all the time.
Um, it's a place where, um, it's very easy to get disoriented if you're more used to places that have a greater variation in topography.
