That's really interesting.
And brings me back to, I think I learned that at Twitter.
And so when I was head of product at Twitter, the biggest challenge we had with the PM team is they would always be pointing to, oh, Facebook did X, Google did X, look at Snapchat, they're new, they're upcoming, they're doing X.
And I had to really push against that and be like, we have smart people at the company.
We have hired all of you because you
Understand Twitter and like want to make it better, like we should trust our ideas internally, not only be influenced by what other folks in the space were doing.
And I took that to heart at digits because it was a brand new space for me.
I had done B2B SAS, that was fine.
I had no background in finance or accounting.
And so we did a couple things.
Like I read two accounting textbooks cover to cover.
We hired UCLA's professor of intro accounting to give our team a private class, but we then didn't do more.
We intentionally did not hire any accountants at the company for the first three and a half years because I wanted to build accounting software from sort of first principles, like in a way that would be intuitive to the business owner.
And it was a really interesting choice of like, okay, three and a half years in, we're now mature enough where we think we've encoded like our unique approach to it.
Now we do need to hire a CPA to make sure we're not being morons and like we didn't totally do something wrong.
And sure enough we did on the edges and we had a PM come in with a CPA background and so on and we addressed some things.
But I think that balance created the right tension where we weren't just like gonna build accounting software because we hired accountants.
So I I'm very curious about this because I think both of our products have the same sort of default competitor, which is in accounting and in finance.
If the software can't do something, you just go to Excel.
