We talked about that.
It drives me up the wall every time somebody mentions NVMe because I get all tense and I keep thinking, please say something that has something related to NVMe.
Everyone keeps talking about NVMe as if it's a media.
It is not.
It's an interface.
And just to prove the point, one of these days I am going to build an NVMe-attached tape drive.
That would work.
When somebody's talking about NVMe, it's almost like they're mentally thinking of the next generation of Flash, which will in turn require NVMe.
But just flapping some device in something that happens to include NVMe is not doing anything at all.
And I see the RFPs where we want NVMe.
Well, what does that mean?
I don't know.
As long as there's something NVMe inside of it, that works.
Is that all that someone's looking for?
What the heck is the point of having an NVMe attached flash drive?
Yes, it will make things a little bit more... It will perform a little bit better, I'm sure.
But ultimately, you're now addressing a media type that is way slower than the interface.
We will need NVMe when the successor to Flash arrives.
And I really look forward to seeing NVMe fabrics.
That will be extremely cool.
