Why isn't this the most important thing for our database customers?
We're talking about databases, the critical data that makes the business work.
Why...
I know everyone wants to talk about NVMe and cloud first, but what about the backups?
What about the restores?
These are critical things, too, that we do unbelievably well, and you can't really market that because it's not fashionable enough, yet it is so incredibly important.
Well, the largest single database that has ever been seen on NetApp storage, one database, is 996 terabytes.
Terabytes.
I was part of the team that did the original architecture there, and you should have seen the grins that we were desperately trying to hide.
So the customer just sat in front of us and explained this very specific requirement of how they sized the database, the layout, the problems they were having, the need for a clone.
And we're just thinking, we got this in the bag.
This is going to be the single easiest sale that we've ever had.
Because literally no one else can do this.
You just can't.
And you'd think that in these days where everyone is getting more focused on the outcomes and improving business processes, it's nice to see the term DevOps becoming such a popular thing now.
It's gone from useful to fashionable now.
You'd think these are the people that would be caring about Snapshot, SnapRestore, FlexClone.
And this would be an incredibly valuable thing, but somehow it's just โ it's somehow not sexy enough.
We should just rename it.
Just stop calling them Snap Restore and now call it.
