Snap Mirror Anywhere.
Sure.
I was surprised to see that we had to write a TR on โ this is another example of โ and this is a fun part of my job.
I admit that I enjoy this.
I find it puzzling, but I do enjoy the marketing aspect where, from a technical point of view, ransomware has struck.
It's encrypted a bunch of files.
Except snapshots are immune from that sort of thing.
To me, that, I mean, duh.
Of course snapshots are immune from ransomware, but that's not the marketing answer.
The marketing answer, we need to actually have the solution for ransomware.
Exact same technology, but you have to phrase it in the right way for people to see the value that you can provide.
Flash was the same thing for me.
Back in the day, before we had this notion of an AFF,
Sure, if your business needs warranted, we'll sell you a system with all SSD drives.
And why is that special?
But then along comes a certain competitor that decides to just own the term flash.
And now all of a sudden what should have been obvious, if you need an all flash system, just go buy an all flash system.
But now all of a sudden we need to have all flash in all capitals in order for it to have that market appeal.
And I don't want to discount the optimizations we've made.
Every time there's another Oracle benchmark on another version of AFF, I see the differences.
