I've seen Cameron Ann Duffy and John Donpatson do, and good luck to them.

So, you know, again, very few.

I mean, I've met Canadians, and they say, well, my first book sold 1,500 copies.

And that was considered a major, raging, raging success.

That was John Donpatson, you know.

And, well, I can't live off 1,500 copies.

I can't live off 1,500 tickets.

So, yeah.

Anyway, so performance poetry is...

It's the freest.

It's a very easy place to be original.

It's a very easy place to be fusing a bunch of techniques from different places.

And I think that gives it a great richness.

It's very demanding.

It's a genuine craft.

And there are certain things you can't do.

If you could sing opera, I'd say to someone, sing opera in your show.

If you can't sing opera, obviously you shouldn't try.

I can get away with singing.

Not everyone can even get away with singing.
