Hey, great, we're grandparents.

We're all, you know, grandparents because our kids had kids.

But when it's our kids had kids with autism, you just sort of feel isolated and alone.

The impression that I get from talking to people after my workshops, after my talks,

I think it's a little of each.

I think that some of them will pick up those signals and listen to what their kids are saying and accept it and go with it.

But then there are others who might think that they know better or might think that, well, I read this or my friend told me that.

And sometimes the information is not helpful.

And not accepting the parents as the authority in the situation can really put up some walls in terms of communication.

parents of kids who have autism they're hearing advice not only from their doctors and from the therapists that the kids have but also from the grocery store cashier and from the online communities and they're just hearing advice from everybody and now here's a grandparent here's my mom or here's my dad and now they're giving me unsolicited advice and i remember i said unsolicited because

Because it's okay to have conversations and provide your thoughts, but unsolicited advice and you shoulds and you need tos really just build walls.

And I talk a lot about that in my book.

Oh, interesting.

So in terms of how I see autism, I think it goes back to that 24-7 type of thing.

You know, you hear it's a rough road.

And, you know, if I have him in my house for three days, I'm literally exhausted at the end of the time because you just don't know what's coming at you.

In terms of people, I think it solidified my belief that there are really good people.

There are also people with very closed minds who have a tendency to not be so nice.

And we've come across that.

I'll tell you, I was never more proud of my daughter when I saw her.
