And that is the thing that actually, I've had a lot of conversations with people who've been through a breakdown of a marriage about just the idea that this person that you have spent your whole adult life with, potentially.

And you think you know.

You think you know, you feel like you know, and you find out that not only overnight do they become a stranger, they were probably a stranger all along.

So that was all very relatable.

The less relatable parts of the book involve kind of the hedge funds and the trust funds and the two homes and the prenuptials and all of the rest.

But effectively, a big narrative thread running through it is this jeopardy that Belle suddenly finds herself in.

She's an heiress.

She's related to the Vanderbilt family.

She comes in to the marriage with, she acknowledges a lot of personal wealth.

Now she doesn't quite say how much wealth and that's where the controversy has since arisen.

But she comes in and she says that she basically emptied her trust funds in order to buy the two family homes.

She put his name on the deeds of the homes because that's what you do when you're happily married.

But he made her sign a prenup or sort of was strongly in favour of her signing a prenup.

She signed it with her eyes open.

But the prenup said that everything that they made during the marriage would remain their own.

So when he went on and then accumulated colossal wealth, she never had access to any of that wealth.

Yeah.

And he had access to the two family homes that she had paid for.

So she said that she wiped out her trust fund.

Now, this week or last week, I think it was, a piece appeared in The New Yorker.
