That's unique the world over.

So it's also Australia's worst serial killing, obviously.

Yeah.

But, you know, the thing that struck me perhaps as I was delving into it is that some of the things that happened to the killers that at least in part made them what they were were the same things that happened to some of the victims that made them what they were.

but they reacted to those things in different ways.

And I think that perhaps if you take a message from it, it's that there has to be something else to you rather than what happened to you that creates a monster like John Bunting.

But certainly, I think it was easy for the public of Australia at the time to dismiss some of the victims as losers or all pedophiles or no hopers or whatever.

But the reality is they were human beings, some of whom who had endured traumas.

who were, for the most part, trying to make the best they could of a pretty ordinary life, a pretty ordinary hand that they'd been dealt, with a couple of exceptions.

There were a couple of people in there who were very ordinary humans, but for the most part, these were people who were just trying to do the best they could with what they had.

I find that whole concept offensive.

And the reason I find it offensive is because so what if you knew your killer?

What difference does that make?

That would have been the argument here 12 times over.

Knew their killer.

The person was known to them.

What sort of a justification is that?

And I think this was perhaps an early indication of what society in Australia has seen a lot of since when you have a marginalised group of society or a group of society that's struggling in some way because of their location, their gender, their sexual orientation or their race, they're going to be more susceptible to violence.

And that was the case here.
