My memory, my first memory when I arrived at Westminster, and I've got to say, I'm a bit of a political nerd like you, Adam, and like Kirsty.
So for me, I know they say politics is show business for ugly people, but I genuinely thought I'd walked into a movie set.
To look around in, when was it, 1993 I arrived and to see someone like Michael Heseltine or John Biffin or, you know, some of these, actually John Smith and, you know, to have John Prescott say, oh, Jeremy, and oh my goodness, this guy knows who I am.
It was incredible.
So the first time I met Mandelson, I was standing in the street, bright day, sunlight, John Smith, Labour leader.
Mandelson walks up to me wearing this tweedy houndstooth yellow jacket, which looks to me like a country squire who's retired.

What are you up to?
Because I'm kind of fascinated by this guy who's got, as far as I can tell, no political future whatsoever under Smith because Smith hates him.
And he says, well, John has let me do something on Vera Lynn.
And I said, what the hell do you mean by that?
