I think getting invested is the hardest part because starting anything is really tricky.
Staying invested is probably just as hard because when you sign up to investments, you're effectively going onto this emotional roller coaster.
And as much as we love to pretend that money is rational and clinical and logical, you can see by how people change their investments due to volatility or, you know, market events.
It is not always, you know, unemotional and logical.
Mm.
And what I'm hoping today is that I can give you some thoughts and ideas to make sure that you know how to kind of weather the storm that is investing for the long term.
is so, so helpful to drown out the noise and to keep that long-term perspective.
Because if you don't know what you're investing for, it can be really easy to go, oh dear, now this is happening in the world.
Maybe I need to change tact.
So I think the goal needs to be at the very, very kind of middle of everything else.
Because people used to come to me and go, oh, here's my investment portfolio.
Is it any good?
And I'm like, I don't know.
And they're like, I don't understand.
Aren't you my advisor?
Like, how do you know whether this is good or not?
And I'm like, well, I don't know what you want to do.
Because if you want to buy an apartment next year versus have a passive income in 20 years, we're going to have very different holdings inside our portfolio.
So start with the goal and then create a system where you get out of your own way and you actually see periods of volatility as opportunity and not that the sky is falling.
