I mean, she's a celebrity figure.

She might be very careful about who can contact her.

So it might be something as simple as that.

So you want to get a message to people.

You send it to two of the local TV stations, the original ransom notes, and to a network that is seen nationally like TMZ.

That might explain it.

There's a million other theories out there as to why that might have been done.

But the bottom line is that the Guthrie family obviously saw and heard those emails.

They read them.

The FBI has said they are taking them seriously, those original ransom notes.

And now we wait to get more detail on what this second message may be.

And again, the first task for the FBI is to try to check its authenticity, the first task for the FBI and the Sheriff's Department.

and to see if they genuinely believe that this follow-up message is from the same people that sent those original ransom notes.

If it is, perhaps there is a sliver of hope that we can all cling to tonight that they are responding to the pleas

for proof of life.

Perhaps they are, and this is a huge perhaps, obviously, but looking for a silver lining in this awful, awful week for the Guthrie family.

Perhaps this is this new message offering proof of life.

We can't jump to any conclusions about its authenticity, about where it came from, about who may have Nancy Guthrie, where Nancy Guthrie and her kidnapper or kidnappers might be.

But it clearly is potentially a significant step forward.
