I still think the reason that I'm here before you right now is not that, and I'll tell you why. If it were that, it would have got away from me and I would have been about that and not my process and not the standard. I do the same things that I've always done. I wasn't puffed up, but I was hungry and I had a real chip on my shoulder, a real chip, and I wanted to win. But it was not out of ego.

I was in Santa Barbara for three and a half years trying to get out, resumes, phone calls, everything, trying desperately to bust out of a small market. It was scary. I thought maybe it might not happen. But finally I got the call, and then things happened quickly when I got to San Diego. Got on the air, got the call from ESPN2, got on the TV show on Talk2, booking A-list guests. It was all great.
