June 19th, Friday
Yesterday's journaling was interrupted by shouts from the villagers.
They were urgent enough that I was roused from my small desk in the room where my hosts are allowing me to stay.
I tried to come to an agreement with them for my rent when I was first taken here by the rest of the village on the day of my arrival, but when I flashed a handful of money at the old man and woman, they simply looked at me quizzically and smiled gently.
I looked for them on my way out of the house, but my landlords were outside like everybody else.
I emerged from the hut to see a terrible scene.
They were surrounding the well, shouting and pumping their fists into the air.
