Well, I should point out to the listeners that in Italy, the president is elected by the parliament.
Now, Giorgio Maloney, the prime minister, seems to be framing Italy's next general election due next year as some kind of stepping stone to putting a conservative president in place.
So let's see how that goes.
But the early discussions have begun within the centre-right coalition, and one of the candidates that could be put forward is Giancarlo Giorgetti, who is the current economy minister.
He's a member of Matteo Salvini's right-wing League Party, but he's actually done quite a good job as the financial boffin of this government.
Well, you would think that the president really is a statesman-like figure, more like a king or a queen.
