It's called the Security Action for Europe.

It's a an instrument, a joint borrowing scheme backed by the EU.

So Italy is approaching that scheme, uh, demanding or y you know, requesting eight billion euros.

uh to finance its defence spending uh that will support Ukraine and to replenish the stocks that have depl been depleted by Ukraine support.

Well it's interesting.

Uh I was just looking at the statistics tonight.

Um Italy's provided around EU billion euros in military assistance and a further one point three billion

in humanitarian and financial support since the the full scale invasion by Russia in twenty twenty two.

Now that's much, much lower than Germany, the UK or France.

But uh with all the debate that goes on in Italy about whether we should be supporting Ukraine, it's interesting that it's not really a huge amount.

I think there's still a lot of debate and a lot of uh division within this ruling coalition.

Uh someone like Matteo Salvini, the leader of the League

uh is still questioning whether Italy should be supporting Ukraine.

Uh the Maloney government's been trying to play down the details of the military aid package, trying to keep it to herself, I think.

Uh just to try and avoid uh fanning these tensions within the coalition.

That's a very good question.

Uh she's got until I think October twenty twenty seven.

Yeah.

But I think she's eyeing the polls, she's eyeing her popularity level.

It's quite possible she'll go in April twenty twenty seven because about that time we'll have some local elections.
