I think it certainly vindicated the European Union stance in terms of protecting employees and in terms of protecting consumers.
It will be very interesting to see whether the the extreme capitalism that you have in the US will allow these um, as I say, these fines to be upheld, and whether or not Amazon or Meta will try to appeal them, and what material difference it will actually make to their behaviors going forward.
I'm always amused.
And remind myself of my very witty moment once with Minister Darkleary.
When I said, Well, the Americans practice the Brittany Spears model.
Of um
of regulation.
And he said, you know, their adhere uh entrepreneurs uh their adherence to regulation is very much the Brittany Spears model.
And the minister looked at me quizzically and said, What do you mean by that, Joan?
And I said, Well I'm
Oops, I did it again was the famous lyric for Brittany Spears.
And this is what seems to happen.
These guys get hauled in, wrapped over the knuckles, or fined, and they go, Oh, so sorry.
Whoops, we didn't mean it.
We won't do that again.
And then ten minutes later they'll just do something else equally heinous.
And then they'll go, oops, I did it again.
And that's all it is.
It's just a it's just a cycle.
And whether or not it's a sh a sign of a real tide turning remains to be seen.
