And I said, oh, I have a boyfriend.
And then I added, but Mike-
I'm a big feminist and I don't believe in staying anywhere or moving anywhere for a boy before the age of 25 and I'm 24.
So I'm taking the job and I'm leaving the guy and I'm coming to Seattle.
And Mike, to his credit, didn't laugh at me, but he said, is there a chance that you might marry this guy?
And I said, yeah, there's a chance.
And he said,
I am revoking the job offer.
He said, I will not be responsible for breaking up what might turn into a happy marriage.
He said, Jodi... He was like maybe 48 or 50 at the time.
He said, Jodi, I've been very successful, but I have been single my whole life.
He actually was on the cusp of meeting somebody great and marrying her.
But he said...
For people like you and me, there are always going to be work opportunities, but finding someone to love is the hardest thing.
So I did not take the job in Seattle.
Mike Kinsley kept me from breaking up with the guy who's now my husband and we have a 20-year-old and we have a 10-year-old.
And, you know, foregoing that promotion cost me nothing and taking that job in Seattle would have cost me everything.
