Most child actors don't work after they're 18.

And so they have to come up with, you know, what's their next act.

So she was sort of preparing me for that.

Um, and I thought, well, yeah, because I can't, I can't do a job where I just like look at a piece of paper, learn the lines and then say them.

That's, that just seems not very challenging.

Um, but when I was 12, I did Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro and, uh, something happened, you know, he,

kind of took me under his wing and explained improvisation and went through the work with me.

And I had this eureka moment where I was like, oh, it's my fault.

I have not brought enough to the equation.

And this is actually the exploration of character is really an amazing thing to do for a living that I love.

And I love making films.

And maybe this is something that I'd want to do.

But it wasn't until then.

But I like the idea of work, though.

I liked going to work and I liked, you know, being on time and I liked the discipline of all of that.

And I liked doing a bunch of takes and having somebody say, no, do this, no, do that and following them.

So I still am, you know, I love discipline.

I like doing the same thing over and over again until I get it right.

And I have that personality and I've always had that.

No, but he was a great director.
