And I've got to the bottom of that in therapy as well.
I've kind of decided that that's probably what was happening.
I've also wondered whether my dad may have had some sort of suppressed anxiety.
homosexuality with him as well he's not here to defend himself but I have always that's been at the back of my mind as well so how did that manifest itself at home because if he had anxieties about it did he eventually share those with you um lots of tutting and eye rolling if I was if I had if my if my hand was limp he'd knock it back into place and it's these sort of microaggressions that can really get to a child there was never um
and there was certainly never physical violence in my home, but these just kind of like micro taps.
And was she noticing this in you?
I don't think as much as my dad.
And I think she thought it would be something that I might grow out of, or my parents didn't have gay friends, and...
They grew up in a different time around different people, and so I can't blame them for anything.
Not until I came out.
I think the sort of worry about AIDS and things like that was still very prevalent in the media.
Right, in the middle of it, yeah.
And so I think, you know, gay, AIDS was a concern as well.
When I was... I knew by 13 or 14 and I acted on it around 15.
Yeah, definitely.
People in boy bands and on TV and characters in Biker Grove and all that kind of stuff.
And I acted quite young on this as well, 15 years old.
