that an intelligent creature can get to a point where it has the technology to access other dimensions.

It can go into other spaces.

Would you even be able to see it all the time?

Would you only be able to see it if you were like under a highly anxious state in the woods?

You're kind of a little freaked out.

You're more open to weird things.

And then it senses that and communicates with you.
