My heart hurts when I say this, but it's probably going to be the Celtics.
He has that Rush Limbaugh thing happening where, like, Even if you don't agree with what he's saying, he's really good at talking.
I mean, Stephen A. Smith is also, importantly, somebody who likes attention. But I also think it's worth considering that like a lot of sports fans will say that they're not political people at all. Like I don't really have politics. And if Stephen A. Smith was saying a bunch of stuff, right? Like he's potentially like really influential.
Yeah. And that's actually, when we talked about the Manosphere months ago, that was actually like one of the sort of interesting things about the Manosphere is that a lot of those shows are not explicitly political, right? There's like, we're just dudes hanging out, talking about some stuff, you know what I'm saying? And then The sort of political stuff sort of gets smuggled into the side.
You could listen to a couple episodes at a time and not hear anything explicitly, like, political. And then it's like, oh, since we're all chilling and relaxed, I'm going to have this anti-vaxxer role. You know what I mean? And even the idea that sports should just be sports, which is kind of McAfee's posture, right, is like a very political sort of stance, right?
Because all wrapped up in sports is ideas about masculinity and labor and capital and, you know. Gender, healthcare. And healthcare. Who gets to play and why. Yeah. Where the games are played. And so, like, that's all. But, you know, so, like, even just taking a stance that we don't want to talk about that messy politics stuff over here is a political stance, right?

I sometimes wonder if that's a product of, like... people bringing partisan politics closer to sports, like when the Caitlin Clark discourse was happening last year, that was like a very red state, blue state. Patrick Mahomes stuff is like very red state, blue state, right? Like, I think part of what's happening is that
the way that people are experiencing sports is also through an increasingly partisan lens, right? Like, if somebody tells you you're a Kobe Bryant fan, you have a whole, like, okay, this person has this kind of politics.
Absolutely. A thousand percent. And so I think part of what's happening is people are, like, bringing over the discourses from partisan politics more broadly where, over into sports. And not that sports was ever completely shorn of that stuff. Of course, it's always been there.
